Like this woman, I’m a Southerner and fiercely proud of it. Although she would probably consider me one of those “conservative bigots.” (My great grandfather was one of the last 28,000 that surrendered with Lee at Appomattox Courthouse). I also largely support Trump and will eagerly vote for him again.

Whether she wishes to recognize or not and despite the slights she had growing up, I suspect our common kinship and the common heritage she shares with all Southerners, white and black will grow stronger with age.

At least I hope so.
